WOMEN'S MARCH 2018
Yes, in 2018 we continue writing about this topic ...
In recent years at the social level there has been an awakening on the part of women, a shout that is enough!
We are faced with the prejudices, stigmas, signs that for years we have charged and inherited from our culture.
Today being a woman is an act of revolution in many parts of the world in any social sphere: family, professional, religious, cultural.
In the United States the 2016 elections that Hillary Clinton lost against Donald Trump, not only did the White House miss, there was a defeat before a person who symbolizes everything against which thousands of women have been fighting, a man who talks about women with contempt, in a macho way, that only sees the woman as an object (Melania his trophy wife) who does not care to listen to our voice, but to see our body, a man who every day offends women and whose administration supports.
Before all this, since last year the women marched ... marched so that their voice was not silent, marched to show that being a woman matters, that these times are no longer for submission but for action, that the time of the Men taking all the decisions is over.
Women's March gathers all those movements for which women have woken up: “Me Too” a movement that was born with a hashtag on Twitter in which millions of women reported abuse, “Time's Up” thousands of women from all industries demanding that harassment and intimidation be stopped in their work areas.
It's a sunny day in New York, I'm heading to Columbus Circle, from the moment I had to take the subway it's crazy the number of people waiting, there are no races or social status, just banners, shirts with legends, hats roses and a feeling of empathy among all.
I go hand in hand with my husband who is the first time he participates in something like this, we join a group of friends along the way, there are so many people that we wait in turns to be able to walk the streets on Central Park West, I am called attention see so many families, children with banners, people of all ages.
The banners say everything that has been silent for a long time, women expressing their feelings, accompanied by all those who support them, an elderly couple holding a sign with the legend "I'm with her" and carrying what looked like their granddaughter in arms makes me feel happy, doing this so that future generations of women do not have to do it, to live better and to ensure that when they march, it is not because they demand basic rights.
The music of a group made up of women playing the drum at the same time makes us all dance a little, all at the same rhythm.
People who walk along the sidewalks witness the colorful parade, many take pictures, others shout in support, others just walk.
There are moments with shouts of protest: "Tell me how democracy looks like, This is how democracy looks like" "My body my choice" and many others that were added along the march.
We walked all the way to the Donald Trump Hotel, where the march ended, the shouts and demands increase as we reached the end, I turn back and do not see where the line ends, there are so many people under the same slogan, make it known that a new generation is rising.
I was fortunate to grow up in a family in which my opinion always matters and that from a very young age I was taught that my value is not defined by my gender or my condition, that I am valuable because of who I am.
I grew up believing that being a woman meant being able to achieve the goals I set for myself, that nothing could stop me and that I have the same rights as any man in the world. I never saw my gender as a disadvantage, until I came across the adversities of growing up in a "world of men" a world that seems to slow us down, limit, question, criticize and judge ... just because we are women.
Today for me being a woman means that I have the same right as any man to compete for a job, get it for my abilities and that I be paid the same as a man, that I do not get harassed anywhere under any circumstances , that the “compliments” or any expression that a man has of me in the street is better that he does not express them because nobody asks for it. That I do not have to endure something or someone that hurts me, that I do not have to follow any pattern but to be who I am, that submission will never be an option.
I like to think that from now on women leave the anonymity, we leave aside the patterns and rules written by men, we leave behind silence and fear.
We went out to assert ourselves, to demand respect, equality, that our voice be heard, so I think we are living the era of women.
