The shop windows in NY stores are quite a show, you really notice the effort and dedication to make the shop window invite you to enter the store.

In this case the windows was just the appetizer, Bergdorf Goodman is one of the most emblematic stores in NYC, brands from Gucci, Chanel, Valentino ... (to name a few) are what make your imagination fly as you walk through the floors and that your wallet suffers a small or big blow.

The windows show the work with Iris Apfel, legend in the fashion industry, who at 96 years of age continues to collaborate and dedicate herself to what she is passionate about.

Since we went up the escalators, the colors, the fabrics, the mixture of textures are what we find in the store's 3rd floor, a whole display of imagination and creativity when playing with garments and accessories of great brands to show a little of what houses the mind of the talented Iris.

Going through the corridors of the exhibition is to see every detail: feathers, prints, bracelets, shoes, even the mannequins carry the characteristic Apfel glasses.

The accessories are a fundamental part for her, she is not afraid of size or materials, let's say that for her the "less is more" is not applied and this has been a hallmark in her personal style.

She has a tremendous collection of garments and accessories that she has collected all over the world, the textile company she had founded together with her husband gave her the opportunity to travel and meet different cultures that nurtured her talented imagination, leading her to collaborations within fashion and work together with 4 former presidents of the United States for the White House.

Within the exhibition is also his new book "Accidental Icon" in which as the same title says, tells that she did not seek to be an icon in fashion, but his personality, creativity and style led to it.

I was lucky (NY city of dreams) to see her, was accompanied by her team and store staff, showed her the progress of the exhibition and she made comments or changes. A kind and extroverted woman, in passing I had the opportunity to tell my admiration to her and what she did to what she replied with a "I like the color of your coat, you never have to be afraid of color" (my coat was pink) .

If you have had the opportunity to read about her or see her documentary on Netflix (which I highly recommend) you will know that she is a woman who is not afraid of color and having fun with clothes, Apfel has been a pioneer in showing the world that you do not have what to dress like a mannequin more, but that daring to be different is what makes us unique.

What I admire about her is that she celebrates individuality, being oneself and dressing as she pleases, without following a pattern, I once read her opinion about how challenging it was to dress as an elderly woman and for her it was like dressing every day for a party, I agree that life is a party, let's celebrate individuality and dare to be and to see ourselves differently.
