EMPATHY
Some time ago talking to a very dear friend about those issues that everyone says you should not touch or talk, because you will never reach a point of agreement, something very funny happened (obviously we did not have the same point of view) ... Soon the conversation began to sound like complaints, our tone of voice went up, there was something of roll eyes (yes, what we all do when we are upset) and even some insults, after a long pause we started laughing. What we did not agree on was making us forget everything we did, and how much we appreciate each other.
Then I realized that in reality the division and lack of empathy is in everything that surrounds us.
There is a certain inheritance that we now carry as adults: the way of thinking of our parents (since thanks to that they educated us and raised us), the ideology that they had and imposed on the institutions (educational or not) through which we passed along our life, all those historical events that surrounded us and formed us.
If all that was so different for each one, why do we insist that the other believes or thinks exactly like us?
Why do we believe that we are those of absolute truth or the only ones who can be good in everything?
At what moment do we begin to impose what we believe or feel as what "should be"?
Each one of us was born and grew up under different circumstances (if you had privileges or poverty, your level of privileges or poverty were not equal to the others of your "same social class", no matter that you were put in the same category).
You had different experiences, which were forming your character and your way of seeing life.
Maybe we live in a very strict home in which as an example we saw that the father or mother were always right without allowing to enter the conciliation part or sometimes even reason, and that was our model.
Maybe we grew up under very strict religious beliefs in which we were not allowed to debate about "what is", and in that way we always assume that "what is" must be for everyone, even for those who did not grow up under the same beliefs that we.
And so with endless examples, we go through life divided, fought, angry and creating conflicts with who does not come to think the same.
How much it costs us to leave ourselves to understand the other: his history, his path, everything that has led him to be who he is.
I think it's a very romantic idea to believe that all the people around us have to think or be the same, I think differences make us stronger.
It costs a lot to leave the state of "I am the absolute truth because that's the way it is" and listen to the other, sometimes opening not only the brain but the heart to understand that not because we do not coincide in something makes us enemies, if there is a endless of things in which if we draw.
My mom always talked to me about empathy towards others, as a girl it was hard for me to apply it in my life but as I grew up and thanks to opportunities that I had, such as the education I received, reading, a sense of curiosity in everything and travel I leave my world of "I" and sometimes I can understand the other, often I find it difficult to work with and the truth is that if we don't have nothing in common well that's it.
I must say that thanks to my character there are things with which I grew deeply rooted by inheritance of all that has been said that have changed over the years, many of them I have obviously let myself be carried away by my sense of what is right (the which we can never deny) but other many thanks to try to understand the other.
I believe that in life we have to be receptive, to learn to listen, to see beyond ourselves, to be grateful for what we have inherited but to know that there comes a time when each one of us has to do his own way of seeing life, it is okay to change your mind, that it is not wrong to realize that what we believed or were made to believe for a long time is not the whole truth but that there are always different perspectives to see something.
Our differences are not always weaknesses but strengths, it is always good to know that our perspective is not the absolute truth of things.
Currently as the world is, nothing would cost us learn that not because someone does not think the same way that we mean that is against us, the respect we demand to our beliefs or ideas is the same that we should give in, if we stop spending so much time discussing what we do not agree with, and we find the things that we do, that would make us walk together towards the same direction and find a point of agreement, and so I think the world would be more beautiful.
