YEAR OF THE PIG

Arriving on Canal Street is to reach a world of color, transport us to China for a moment, with merchandise in the streets: flowers, food, souvenirs, watches, bags ... You can find whatever you want.

A cold afternoon did not stop the streets of Chinatown from being flooded with tourists and locals to see the annual parade. This year it's the pig's turn.

Each year this event attracts all the attention to Chinatown; neighbors looming in the windows, tourists on the lookout, children asking what time it starts, little ones being carried on their shoulders by their parents, the main street is full and there is no space not even to walk. Inflatable pigs, bazookas of confetti, flags of China and the United States waited behind the containment rods.

The parade was opened by the New York Police Department (NYPD) on horseback, and a band led allegorical cars, dragons, pigs, color and music.

Throughout the parade they deliver fortune cookies, flags, souvenirs to celebrate the day, the streets are flooded with confetti and party.

Throughout two hours different Chinese associations or groups parade, also as always politicians are present, well-known brands, restaurants, anyone who wants to participate and for the Chinese community represents something is welcome.

The parade ends and the rows outside the restaurants and full venues do not wait, the whole day is served food, drink, and the celebration continues on the street.
